Color Harmony

Learn different color harmony schemes for creating pleasing visual combinations

Introduction

Color harmony is the art of creating pleasing color combinations. There are several classic harmony schemes that help create visually appealing compositions.

Complementary Colors

Complementary colors are located opposite each other on the color wheel. They create maximum contrast and visual energy. Example: red and green, blue and orange.

Red ↔ Green

Analogous Colors

Analogous colors are located next to each other on the color wheel. They create harmonious and calm combinations. Example: blue, blue-green, green.

Blue → Blue-green → Green

Triadic Harmony

The triadic scheme uses three colors evenly distributed around the color wheel. This creates bright and balanced combinations. Example: red, yellow, blue.

Split-Complementary Colors

This scheme uses a base color and two colors adjacent to its complementary color. It provides high contrast with less tension than the complementary scheme.
